EPISODE . 2 . ACS ATHLETE ANNA SHAW GAINS US ROWING SCHOLARSHIP

Anna Shaw, a former ACS rowing athlete has recently accepted a full scholarship to attend Tulsa University in which she will be departing for the US in August 2021.

Anna began rowing for Newark Rowing Club as an enthusiastic J15 with the usual capsizes, questionable steering and other J15 related calamities. Anna quickly showed her potential by showcasing trial worthy ergo times and resulted with Anna storming down the Henley course, Boston trials course, GB potential camps and attending other major National competitions.

Anna applied for Tulsa University in summer 2020 and with the help and aid of Tulsa's recruitment officer (Kerry Hassel), was able to quickly gain a place. We, at ACS Rowing, ran and developed the Newark Junior Programme in which we introduced Anna to the idea of applying for a scholarship during the first lockdown of spring 2020. We conducted an online presentation for our older juniors to life after junior rowing and presented options for continuing their journey into University and how to apply for potential scholarships. These presentations and discussions have proved successful with many of our juniors whom have gone onto applying for further education at Universities in the UK and abroad.

Rowing is highly regarded amongst University establishments and employers. We strongly believe rowing gives future applicants an advantage when applying for University and future jobs.
